AUTHOR'S POV

“Raha! Open the door, everyone is waiting at the mandap!” Reena called out, her voice trembling with both excitement and pride. Her daughter was supposed to marry the richest man in the city — Armaan Singh Rathore.

“Aunty, please come fast, Papa is calling!” Aradhya rushed in, her dupatta slipping from her shoulder as she looked at her stepmother with worry.

Soon Shreya also came there with Amit, both of them anxious.

“She’s not opening the door,” Reena said, panic rising in her tone.

Amit’s face darkened. He grabbed the spare keys, unlocked the door — the room was empty.

“Where is she?” Reena whispered, fear taking over.

Amit searched the washroom and found a folded letter near the mirror. He opened it with trembling hands.

Mumma, Papa… I told you I didn’t want to marry Armaan. But for your business profit, you kept forcing me. I’m running away from this marriage and will never come back again.

— Raha

The paper slipped from his hand. Reena’s lips trembled. They all froze — Armaan would destroy them.

“Shreya will marry Armaan,” Amit said coldly.

“Papa… but—” she tried to speak, but he cut her off sharply.

“You two are already a burden on me. For once, be useful,” he snapped.

Tears filled Shreya’s eyes. Aradhya stood helpless, clutching her sister’s hand tightly, knowing neither of them could fight back they have never treated them like their own that is why they call their stepmother aunty.

“Get her ready fast,” Reena ordered harshly.

POV – ARMAAN

I sat at the mandap, bored and restless. I didn’t know the girl much — honestly, I didn’t care. I was marrying for my family, not for love. Love wasn’t my cup of tea.

Soon, the bride walked in, her face hidden under a heavy veil. Her hands were shaking. Maybe she was nervous? Or scared?

After the seven vows, the priest asked me to apply sindoor.

As my mom lifted the veil, her mother stopped her.

“Please, don’t lift it. It’s part of our ritual,” Reena said too quickly.

Mom nodded. I applied sindoor and tied the mangalsutra. She shivered beside me. Something felt… off.

“vivaah sampan hua ab se ap dono pati patni” the priest announced. Everyone cheered.

After taking blessings, her parents requested to talk privately. We all went inside a room — the tension was thick.

“Raha ran away,” Amit said suddenly.

My blood boiled. “Then who the hell is this?” I shouted.

Mom lifted the veil herself.

“Shreya?” Chachi gasped.

Everyone stared in shock. She stood silently, tears running down her pale cheeks.

“You have no idea what you’ve done,” I said, my voice low but dangerous. “You’ll now face Armaan Singh Rathore.”

Her parents joined their hands. “We’re sorry, beta. Please—”

“I don’t care,” I interrupted coldly. “You tried to ruin my family’s name. Now she’ll pay for it.”

Shreya’s sister clutched her hand. Fear filled the room, but they stayed quiet — they had no choice.

We stepped out again. Shreya hugged her sister tightly before we left.

As soon as I reached home, I changed and entered the room. She stood up immediately, her eyes red.

“So, you thought you could trick me? Marry me instead of Raha and play with my family’s respect?” I said, gripping her wrist tightly.

She winced. “I… I didn’t—”

“Save your excuses. I’ll divorce you soon. But not before making sure you regret every second of it.”

He left, slamming the door.

Shreya sank to the floor, her body trembling. Tears rolled down her cheeks.

“What did I do to deserve this?” she whispered to herself, broken.
